Life-size sculpture requested by a private Las Vegas collector, one of the biggest fans of the Rolling Stones. His name is Tommy (and I cannot say anything else about him...).
First, the sketch. I used hundreds of reference pictures, both from the web and from specialized magazines. At this initial stage, it does not matter whether the references reflect the age requested by the client because the key here is to plant the bone structure (see sketch).
SKETCH
MODEL 1
SCULPTURE
At this stage, to capture the likeness, material reflecting Richards' current age is needed. Pictures with different angles and lightings were needed to reveal the intricate wrinkle map of this fascinating face.
The mouth slightly open is a recurring gesture in Richards. I saw it once and again in different pictures. It was the chosen one for this piece.
(I know, Richards' eyes are not blue! These are just a generic pair of eyes, just for sculpting purposes. The final silicone cast has eyes with the right color.)
